Is this the real life, or is it just fantasy?
My fantasy device is a synesthesia simulator. Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which one sensory experience leads to the stimulation of another. There are several variations, including ones where people can hear colors or taste linguistic sounds. This leads to a very different experience of the world. A device to simulate these effects could be used as a unique way of learning information.
The first two images are of the screens that allow the user to select the type of synesthesia they want to experience. Users will get the option of selecting a known form of the condition, or custom designing their own cross-sensory experience. The device will have a number of sensors that users can “plug into,” allowing them to experience tastes, smells, and other sensations.
This screen demonstrates the sound-color variation. Users can play a note, and the device will show them a corresponding color. Alternatively, they can use the device to take a picture of a color, and hear a corresponding sound.
